Synopsis
During an island scuba dive, Brooke’s air tank runs dry. Carter does not even try to bring both of us up. He rips my full backup cylinder from my rig, gives it to Brooke, and ascends with her—leaving me alone more than sixty feet underwater with almost no air. My last breaths disappear fast. Just as I start to black out, my most hated stepbrother, Knox, swims down. He grabs the back of my head and presses his mouth to mine, forcing air into my lungs. I cling to him as he keeps pulling me upward, kissing me again whenever I start to run out of air. By the time we reach the shallows, I can barely stand.
