Synopsis

Blair Kennedy, a top Manhattan lawyer, drafts her own airtight prenuptial agreement with wealthy fiancé Alexander Wentworth. Just before signing, she discovers he has hidden **$300 million in debt** through shell companies. Instead of confronting him, she subtly adds a clause stating that any undisclosed debt over $1 million remains solely the debtor’s responsibility. Alexander signs without reading carefully. When his empire collapses, he tries to force Blair to share the burden—but the clause protects her completely. He loses everything, and she walks away. Blair then leaves her prestigious firm and opens a small Brooklyn practice called “She Signs,” helping ordinary women understand before they sign. Over the years, she guides dozens of clients—nurses, teachers, retirees—through unfair contracts, teaching them to ask questions and protect themselves. Meanwhile, Alexander files for bankruptcy, moves to Chicago, and eventually remarries. Blair never marries again, but finds fulfillment in her work. The story ends with her reflecting: true protection isn’t in fine print—it’s in knowing what you’re signing, and choosing to trust only those who deserve it.
