In order to ensure Conrad's flight safety, she decided to forgo treatment and continue working. When Conrad coldly scolded her without regard for their past, Cynthia had an awakening. No longer willing to sacrifice for this man, she decided to divorce him and return to the Shaws. After Cynthia left, Conrad realized how much he relied on her and struggled with the lack of her care. He wanted her to come back, but Cynthia had already started a new life. Eventually, Conrad came to understand that his arrogance and pride had driven Cynthia away.
