Synopsis

Bella, a gardener’s daughter, is in a secret love affair with Dante, a mafia don. After a night of passion, Dante’s mother, Carmela, discovers their secret relationship. Carmela looks down on Bella for her low-class background and refuses to let them be together. She warns Bella: if the two keep seeing each other, Bella will end up dead — either killed by Carmela’s own men or by the wealthy heiress from another mafia family who is already betrothed to Dante. Dante knows how cruel and obsessive his mother can be. Since his position as don isn’t secure yet, he has no choice but to give in. He begs his mother to let Bella stay by his side. Faced with her son’s plea, Carmela comes up with a cruel scheme. Bella can stay, but Carmela will formally adopt her as her daughter. Crushed by the relentless abuse, Bella flees with the black ledger and turns to the mafia underboss, a man who once pursued her. When Dante learns Bella has stolen the black ledger and fled to another man while carrying his child, he is consumed by mad jealousy and starts bloody turf wars. He eventually tracks Bella down. In a fit of rage, he tears at her clothes — only to see her back covered in old and fresh scars from abuse. The don’s whole world falls apart. He is filled with remorse and begs for her forgiveness. But Bella is no longer the helpless woman everyone once preyed upon. She turns the mafia’s own brutal rules against everyone who hurt her. In the end, Bella takes control of the mafia family, becoming its true ruler.
