The Girl from the Bookstore

Synopsis

Harper Ellison meets Wren Calloway by chance at her own bookstore, and they hit it off immediately. Harper later discovers that Wren is actually her brother Garrett's girlfriend. Garrett appears charming on the surface, but is in fact extremely controlling and emotionally volatile, subjecting Wren to psychological and physical abuse. After witnessing the abuse firsthand, Harper steps in and rescues Wren late at night. As they grow closer living together, their feelings deepen. Facing Garrett's escalating harassment and threats, Harper files a restraining order, installs new locks, and publicly breaks ties with her brother. With Harper's support, Wren breaks free from fear, comes out to her parents, and is accepted. Harper also comes out to her family. After Garrett is completely cut off, he leaves. The story ends with Harper proposing to Wren successfully, with flash-forwards years later showing the two married, having adopted children, and spending a warm Christmas together.
