Synopsis

Single mother Ruby works as a seafood waitress, depending on tips for her daughter’s asthma treatment. After a new digital payment system launches, owner Howard steals 15–40% of all servers’ tips via fake administrative charges for his own gain. Ruby unites seven debt-strapped, struggling waitresses. With a technician’s help, they gather solid proof and hold a peaceful protest, exposing Howard’s theft online and to diners. A free labor lawyer assists them to win nearly $100,000 in full compensation. The eight women quit their old jobs and crowdfund Lighthouse, a staff-owned co-op restaurant where all tips and profits go equally to workers. Over 15 years, they survive financial hardship, unfair corporate rivals and the pandemic, forming a nationwide network to help underpaid service workers claim their deserved wages.
