Synopsis

As the second son of the Yale family, Henry works his way through college, marries Hailey, and builds a successful life in the city. Not long after, his parents and his ailing older brother, Carter, come to stay with him, saying they're too old to care for Carter and need Henry to step in. This stirs up Henry's long-held anger over how his parents always favored his brother over him. While Hailey shows kindness to her in-laws and Carter, Henry grows angrier, and his fury boils over when his parents announce they will give all the demolition compensation from their old house to Carter. Heartbroken and enraged, Henry decides to cut off all contact with his parents forever. Hailey knows her in-laws are reasonable people, so she wants to help Henry reconcile with them. She goes to visit them on her own and accidentally learns the truth: when Henry was a kid, he got uremia. Back then, Carter was about to take the college entrance exam, a top student with a bright future, but he donated one of his kidneys to save Henry. After that, Carter's health completely collapsed. He had to drop out of school and couldn't even do regular manual labor. So all those years, Henry thought his parents loved Carter more than him. But it turned out that favoritism was just their way of feeling guilty for everything Carter had sacrificed. Unfortunately, Henry's father, Noah, is injured in a work accident at the construction site. With his last breath, he finally tells Henry the whole truth.
