After I Went Mad, He Said He Loved Me

Synopsis

Evelyn lost her parents at eight. Derek pulled her from the fire. He let her call him ""uncle"" — but he's no ordinary man. He's a zombie king, cursed to watch everyone he loves grow old and die. So when Evelyn turned twenty and tried to confess her love, Derek announced his engagement to her aunt Yvette instead. He pushed her away again and again. Let Yvette steal her wedding dress design. Left her alone during a PTSD episode. Yvette had her locked in a psychiatric hospital. Evelyn was tortured. Electrocuted. Lost her baby. She stopped speaking. She forgot who she was. Derek finally found out the truth. He shattered Yvette's lies. He traded his own immortality to save Evelyn's life — a knife to his own heart, his blood in her mouth. Now he's blind. Gray-haired. Dying. Three years later, Evelyn stands on a runway in New York. Her burned wedding dress is the centerpiece of her collection. A man in a wheelchair sits in the back, listening to a stranger describe it to him. He's smiling. He doesn't know she can see him. She walks toward the door. He's in the rain. She's in the light. This time — she'll be the one to say it first.
