Synopsis

Rosa, a 43-year-old Mexican immigrant, worked hard in a Chicago hotel laundry to support her daughter's dance studies. On payday, she discovered that her supervisor, Frank, and his brother-in-law in the HR department had been consistently withholding overtime pay, leaving the lower-level employees with no recourse. Rosa, who didn't speak English, exposed their corruption with her artwork. After secretly distributing the drawings, over forty female workers joined forces to fight for their rights. The hotel manager intervened, the two men were fired, and all owed wages were paid in full. Rosa's courage led to her being elected chair of the payroll self-inspection committee. She diligently learned English and started labor rights workshops, helping many immigrants protect their legal rights. Over the years, she rose from an ordinary laundry worker to a champion for grassroots workers. Her daughter, influenced by her, also chose social work to continue her work. Rosa firmly believes that nothing can be accomplished alone; only by uniting can we achieve fairness and dignity.
