Synopsis
Three years after his brother Leo is branded a traitor and killed, Kai Walsh enters the Raven Society under a false identity to find out who murdered him. Society rules force the new recruit to eat and live with Dante Moretti, its feared enforcer—the man Kai suspects most. In Dante’s room, Kai finds a photograph of Leo and a battered brass lighter that once belonged to him. He also learns that Dante has quietly sent money to the Walsh family every month since Leo’s death. The lighter leads Kai to a hidden key, forged dock records and a trail of payments linking the society’s manager, Rossi, to a rival gang. As Kai and Dante investigate, their hostility gives way to trust and then love. They expose the plot that framed Leo, but clearing his name demands more than a confession: Dante must testify about his own part in that night and the years he spent working for the society. His testimony separates them while he helps bring the remaining conspirators to justice. Fourteen months later, Kai is running his family’s laundry when Dante walks back through the door.
